Miami Ohio Redhawks Game Notes
Miami OH sophomore QB Brett Gabbert exited Wednesday’s game with a head injury and did not return. Gabbert (6’0/212) got off to a nice start, completing five-of-eight passes for 76 yards, before getting knocked out of the game on a stiff helmet-to-helmet targeting penalty. It would appear to be a head injury and will likely result in some form of concussion protocol for the sophomore signal caller. He was relieved by sophomore A.J. Maier who completed 16-of-24 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns to help seal the win for the defending MAC champion Redhawks.
Buffalo Bulls Game Notes
Buffalo redshirt junior QB Kyle Vantrease completed 11-of-17 passes for 175 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Wednesday’s 49-30 win over Northern Illinois. Vantrease punched in a touchdown on the ground, too. Everything Vantrease wanted in this game, he got it. Though he attempted just the 17 passes, he was wildly efficient with them and clocked in just over 10 yards per attempt. He constantly found his mark down the field, hitting on multiple 30-plus yard completions on the day. Vantrease (6’3/220) threw for just 6.9 yards per attempt over his 172 attempts last year, so perhaps this year’s opener is a good sign of his progress. Buffalo move to 1-0 and take on Miami (OH) next week.
