Spartans get scare from Indiana
Michigan State got a win last week at home, but were given a big scare by Indiana in a 40-31 victory. The Spartans are 4-1 on the season, 2-0 in the Big Ten, 2-3 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
Despite the letdown last weekend, the Michigan State defense has been one of the stronger units in the nation. The Spartans are giving up just 15 points and 254.4 yards per game this year. Offensively, MSU hasn’t been terribly impressive, averaging 31.4 points and 414.8 yards per contest. Quarterback Brian Lewerke has thrown for 1,325 yards and 10 touchdowns, while rushing for 147 yards as well. Elijah Collins has emerged as the team’s feature back with 413 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Darrell Stewart Jr. has become the top receiver with 35 catches for 556 yards and three touchdowns. Kenny Willekes is leading the defense with 34 tackles and four sacks.
Ohio State dominates another
Ohio State has looked unstoppable this season and the Buckeyes are coming off a 48-7 win at Nebraska last weekend to improve to 5-0 on the year. Ohio State is 2-0 in the Big Ten, 4-1 against the spread and 2-2-1 with the over/under total
It’s hard to find a better balance of offense and defense this year than what Ohio State is doing. The Buckeyes are giving up just 8.6 points and 224.2 yards per game on defense. Both of those stats rank in the top 5 nationally. On offense, OSU is putting up 52.4 points and 536.2 yards per game. Those both rank in the top 10 in the nation. Justin Fields has thrown for 1,092 yards and 16 touchdowns with no interceptions while also rushing for 222 yards and seven scores. J.K. Dobbins is the leading rusher with 654 yards and five touchdowns while Binjimen Victory is the leading receiver in a balanced group. He has 15 catches for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Jeff Okudah has 16 tackles and three interceptions to lead the defense.
College Football Betting Trends
Michigan State
The Spartans have hit the under in four of their last five road games and in seven of their last nine conference games.
Ohio State
The Buckeyes have hit the over in five of their last six games in October and in four of their last five conference games.
Prediction:
These two have hit the under in four straight meetings and the totals haven’t been much higher than this. Michigan State has been able to perplex the Ohio State offense like nobody else has. Ohio State hasn’t been challenged physically like it will be this week and it will be interesting to see if the Buckeyes continue to dominate, or take a step back. MSU has one of the best run defenses in the country and they will try to take away the Ohio State ground game and force Fields into being a pocket passer. Can they succeed? Can Fields handle it if they do? I think we will see some holes in the Ohio State offense this week because of the Spartans. On the flip side, I see the Michigan State offense struggling with the Buckeyes defense. MSU has a questionable offensive line and that’s not going to bode well in Columbus.
