Michigan Wolverines Game Notes
J.J. McCarthy was 15-for-25 passing for 167 yards and seven carries for 50 yards during Saturday’s 29-7 victory against Michigan State. McCarthy had his roughest passing performance of the season against the division-rival Spartans, logging his fewest completion since a Week 3 win against Connecticut. However, the sophomore signal-caller still completed 60 percent of his passes and rushed for at least 50 yards for the second game in a row. McCarthy has now completed 122 of his 165 passes for 1,434 yards and a 10:2 TD:INT ratio over seven starts this season, though he could stand to let things loose as a passer against Rutgers this coming Saturday.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights Game Notes
Noah Vedral was 3-for-7 passing for 18 yards and one interception during Saturday’s 31-0 defeat against Minnesota. He also netted zero yards across three rushes. Vedral was subbed in for sophomore quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, who was unable to return after suffering an undisclosed injury early in the fourth quarter. The senior signal-caller lost the Scarlet Knights’ starting job after completing 12 of his 24 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown against Indiana in Week 8. Vedral figures to maintain this starting spot if Wimsatt is unable to suit to up against Michigan’s elite defense this Saturday.
