Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Bulldogs are 1.5-point favorites to beat the Aggies. The total, meanwhile, sits at 43.5 points. As of this writing, 53% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Aggies.
Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M sophomore QB Kellen Mond completed 25-of-37 passes for 353 yards and one touchdown in Saturday’s 26-23 win over South Carolina. The Aggies had to hold off a comeback effort by the Gamecocks to secure the road win. It was frustrating that the Aggies settled for four field goals after marching down the field multiple times, but Mond (6’2/210) still had a huge passing yardage day. Mond’s lone touchdown was a four yard strike to Jace Sternberger, who had a career game. The Aggies are now 5-0 in games not against Alabama and Clemson. They’ll return from their bye with a matchup against Mississippi State on October 27th.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed 8-of-24 passes for 59 yards and four interceptions while rushing for 131 yards on 23 attempts in Saturday’s 19-3 loss to LSU. We got the full Nick Fitzgerald Experience on Saturday evening, with the quarterback showing off plenty of good stuff on the ground while proving essentially incapable of doing anything right as a passer. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound has now failed to throw for 100 yards in any of his last three games. He’ll try to get over that low, low bar against Texas A&M next weekend.
Betting Trends
Texas A&M
The Aggies are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games overall and are 6-1 against the number in their last seven road games.
Mississippi State
The Bulldogs are 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games but are just 1-5 against the number in their last six conference games.
Prediction
I understand home field advantage is worth 2.5 to 3 points in football but really, this game should be a pick’em. In fact, if I’m honest, I think the wrong team is favored. The Aggies were the only team to at least be competitive with Alabama this season and they nearly pulled off one of the most impressive upsets of the season when they nearly beat Clemson. Mississippi State, meanwhile, got destroyed by Kentucky 28-7, only scored six points at home versus Florida, and lost last week 19-3 to LSU. Their most impressive win? A 23-9 thumping of an overrated Auburn team at home two weeks ago. I love A&M here.
