Mississippi State vs. Alabama, 10/31/20 College Football Week 9 Predictions

Miss State vs. Alabama Prediction

Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide shouldn’t have any trouble winning their sixth consecutive game on Saturday night when they host the 1-3 Mississippi State Bulldogs but will Alabama cover as massive home chalk? ‘Bama is currently listed as a 31-point favorite while the total sits at 63.5 points.

Mississippi State Bulldogs Game Notes

Mississippi State HC Mike Leach was brazen in the face of seven players leaving the team over the last week. When asked for comment on the recent mass exodus of players, HC Leach said “I’d be surprised if we don’t lose more.” This statement comes on the heels of previous comments he made after their 24-2 loss to Kentucky on October 10 when he said “We’re going to have to check some of our group and figure out who really wants to play here . . . because any malcontents, we’re going to have to purge a couple of those.” When Leach was asked about program supporters expressing concern about the departures, he advised those people to “brace yourself”. It remains to be seen how successful this tactic will be in the long run, but for the moment Mississippi State sports a 1-3 record and in the midst of a three-game losing streak.is now 1-1 — 0-1 in conference — and will need to play much better next Saturday against Boise State to stand any chance.

Alabama Crimson Tide Game Notes

Alabama redshirt sophomore QB Mac Jones completed 25-of-31 passes for 387 yards in a 45-17 thumping of Tennessee on Saturday. No touchdown passes for Jones, but it’s another strong effort in a game that saw him lose one of his top targets in Jaylen Waddle for the year on the opening kickoff. No matter — at least against the Vols — as the 6-foot-3, 214-pound quarterback continued to show elite accuracy and get the ball downfield to John Metchie III, DeVonta Smith and (surprised) Slade Bolden. Alabama is just much, much better than the teams they’ve played so far, and if Jones keeps playing like this, they’re not going to be challenged. Another big game is assuredly coming next Saturday against Mississippi State.

Mississippi State vs. Alabama Betting Prediction

The under is 10-2-1 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams and is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams in Tuscaloosa. The under is also 6-2 in the Bulldogs’ last eight games overall, is 38-17 in their last 55 conference games and is 36-16-1 in their last 53 games when they’re receiving points. Meanwhile, the under is 4-1 in the Crimson Tide’s last five games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game. I expect ‘Bama to score plenty but Miss State’s offense has been a disaster since its season-opening win over LSU.
