Mississippi State Bulldogs Game Notes
Mississippi State sophomore QB Will Rogers completed 33-of-58 passes for 336 yards and a touchdown in a 31-21 loss to Ole Miss on Thursday night. Rogers (6’2/210) had his 11th 300+ yard game on the season and his 10th straight, but it wasn’t enough against Ole Miss. Throughout the game, Rogers struggled to push the ball down the field. He took the dink-and-dunk all game long, but it hurt them in the end to not have success down the field. The struggles were brutal in the red zone. At the end of the first half, the Bulldogs had three drops, but all of those balls weren’t placed the best. At the end of the game, they also struggled to get the ball in the endzone. The only Rogers touchdown pass came after Matt Corral threw an ugly interception and they took advantage of the short field. The Bulldogs finished 7-5 on the season and will await their bowl game opponent.
Texas Tech Red Raiders Game Notes
Texas Tech redshirt sophomore QB Tyler Shough (collarbone) has been ruled out for his team’s Liberty Bowl matchup against Mississippi State. Shough (6’5/225) has not played since injuring his collarbone on September 25th against Texas. Originally expected to return by November, Shough has continued to miss time, while quarterback Donovan Smith continues to start for the Red Raiders. This season, Smith has thrown for 929 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions while also rushing 51 times for 125 yards and another two scores. Smith has started three games for Texas Tech in Shough’s absence, and appears set to close out their season-finale on December 28th against Mississippi State.
