Money Still Pouring in on Alabama for National Championship Game 1/8/18

Money Pouring in on ‘Bama

We’re still hours away from kickoff of the college football national championship game between Alabama and Georgia but as of this writing, money continues to pour in on the Crimson Tide.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Crimson Tide are a 5-point favorite over the Bulldogs ahead of tonight’s 8:10 p.m. ET kickoff. That said, other online books have the line at 3.5 or 4, so it’s best to shop around depending on which team you favor.

There’s more consensus at the sports books when it comes to the total. After opening at either 45.5 or 46 depending on the book, Bovada has the total at 46 while other sports books are at 45.5. Will Hill has posted the lowest total at 45 but on average, online and Vegas sports books list the over/under at 45.5.

Bet the College Football National Championship Game

Meanwhile, public bettors aren’t wavering on which side they’re taking in tonight’s game. As of Monday morning, 65% of public bettors are laying the points with ‘Bama and 61% of the money is also on the Crimson Tide. Thus, one could surmise that with the betting tickets and money on the same side that most wiseguys and public bettors like ‘Bama to cover. Otherwise, you would see a difference in the betting tickets and the money being wagered, since wiseguys tend to invest more at the betting window.

Furthermore, 60% of the betting tickets are also on the Crimson Tide to win on the money line. Usually you’ll see more money line wagers on the underdog because the dog offers a higher return on investment. But not tonight, as bettors are also nabbing the Tide anywhere between -210 and -175 on the money line.

Where things get more convoluted is on the total. As of this writing, 51% of the betting tickets are on the over but 54% of the money is on the under. In general, public bettors like the over because they prefer rooting for points. But when it comes to tonight’s game, it would appear that wiseguys are on the under.
