Navy Midshipmen Game Notes
Navy freshman QB Xavier Arline completed 4-of-8 passes for 29 yards and rushed 27 times for 60 yards in a 19-6 loss to Tulsa on Saturday. Arline (5’9/165) was making his first career start after Navy HC Ken Niumatalolo opened the quarterback competition this past week and gave the nod to his true freshman pupil. Navy’s offense didn’t do much today, it’s true. But keep this in mind: Arline’s 60 rushing yards were the most by a Navy quarterback all season, and they came against a strong Tulsa defense in a true freshman’s first-ever start running the tricky triple-option offense. The 3-6 Midshipmen close up shop on a disappointing regular season with the annual Army-Navy game next Saturday. It would be really promising for the program if Arline could flash progress against the Midshipmen’s hated rival in the 2020 finale following a lost campaign.
Army Black Knights Game Notes
Army sophomore QB Tyhier Tyler ran the ball 35 times for 121 yards in Saturday’s 28-27 win over Georgia Southern. Tyler also completed his only pass attempt of the day for 25 yards. The rest of his contributions were on the ground, though. Tyler did not rip off any huge gains, as his best run of the day went for just 17 yards. Tyler did do a decent job facilitating Army’s option game, though, and showed zero hesitation in taking on the burden of the offense by taking that many hits in the run game. Army move to 7-2 with their rivalry game against Navy up next.
Navy vs. Army Betting Prediction
The under is a perfect 9-0 in this series when Army is the host team and is 15-2 in the last 17 series meetings between these two programs. The under is 20-6 in the Midshipmen’s last 26 games in December and is 7-3 in their last 10 games coming off a bye. On the other side, the under is 24-8 in the Black Knight’s last 32 games coming off a bye, is 16-5 in their last 21 games played in December and is 4-1 in their last five games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
