Public Betting Trends
According to the latest oddsmakers, Memphis is the favorite at home, as the Tigers are getting odds of -10.5 points against Navy. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 55 points. The public betting currently has 60 percent going on Navy as the road underdog. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Memphis off to 3-0 start
The Memphis Tigers are off to a 3-0 start to the season thanks to a 42-6 win at South Alabama on Sept. 14. Memphis also holds a win over Ole Miss this year. The Tigers are 2-1 against the spread and 2-1 with the under.
Memphis is putting up 37.3 points and 489.7 yards per game on offense this season while the defense is allowing just 13.3 points and 226.3 yards per contest. Brady White has thrown for 718 yards and five touchdowns to lead the offense while Kenneth Gainwell has rushed for 307 yards and three touchdowns. Damonte Coxie has added 15 receptions and 237 yards. JJ Russell is leading the defense with 16 tackles and a sack.
Navy wins a pair of games
Navy has played just twice in the first four weeks of the season, earning wins over Holy Cross and ECU. The Midshipmen are 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the AAC, 2-0 against the spread and 2-0 with the under.
Not surprisingly, Navy has one of the top rushing attacks in the nation thus far. The Midshipmen are averaging 371.5 yards on the ground while putting up 43.5 points and 499.5 total yards per game on offense. The defense is giving up just 8.5 points and 226.5 yards per contest. Quarterback Malcolm Perry is leading the team with 254 passing yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 184 yards and five scores. Nelson Smith has added 148 rushing yards and three touchdowns. CJ Williams is the leading receiver with three catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Memphis
The Tigers are 17-5 with the over in their last 22 home games and in four straight Thursday games.
Navy
Navy has hit the under in four of their last five road games and in seven of their last 10 games against a winning record.
Prediction:
These two have hit the under in their last two meetings, going under 60 points both times. They did score 57 in their last meeting at Memphis two years ago. Navy hasn’t really faced much in terms of competition his year, so I would expect the Midshipmen to struggle to score a little on the road. However, their defense should be able to hold up. Memphis also hasn’t faced much in terms of good defense. The Tigers were held to just 15 points at home against Ole Miss. I think this game is going to be a grind, as Navy tries to control possession with its run game and Memphis just struggles to find big plays.
