Nebraska still winless
Nebraska continued its struggles this weekend with a 41-24 loss at Wisconsin. The Cornhuskers are now 0-5 on the season, 0-3 in the Big Ten, 1-4 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The Cornhuskers have been awful on defense this year, allowing 39.2 points and 437.6 yards per game. Nebraska is giving up over 200 yards per game on the ground. Offensively, the Huskers are averaging 432.2 yards per game, but scoring just 21.8 points per contest. Freshman Adrian Martinez has thrown for 916 yards and five touchdowns, but also has rushed for 253 yards and three scores. Devine Ozigbo is the leading rusher with 289 yards and three scores.
Northwestern snaps skid
Northwestern is coming off a 29-19 win at Michigan State last weekend to snap a three-game losing streak. The Wildcats are 2-3 overall, 2-1 in the Big Ten, 3-2 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The Wildcats are trying to win with defense, but still giving up 25.2 points and 388.2 yards per game. Offensively, Northwestern is putting up 23.6 points and 371.2 yards per game. Their run offense has taken a big hit with the loss of Jeremy Larkin for the season to a spinal injury. The current active leading rusher is John Moten IV, who has just 57 yards on 25 carries. Clayton Thorson is being forced to do it all with his arm. He has thrown for 1,300 yards and six touchdowns with five interceptions. Flynn Nagel is the leading receiver with 402 yards on 36 catches.
College Football Betting Trends
Nebraska
Nebraska has hit the over in four straight road games and the Huskers are 6-0-1 with the over in their last seven conference games.
Northwestern
Northwestern is 39-11-1 with the under in its last 51 home games and 11-4-1 with the under in its last 16 games following a cover.
Prediction:
The total is set pretty high for two teams that aren’t able to sustain a lot of offense right now. I know Nebraska is struggling a great deal on defense, but the Wildcats are so one dimensional that is should impact their ability to score consistently. Northwestern should also be able to put up a stand at home on defense. Nebraska has struggled to finish drives as is and I expect that to continue on the road.
College Football Prediction: Nebraska/Northwestern Under 59.5
