Nebraska Cornhuskers Game Notes
Nebraska HC Scott Frost announced on Monday that junior QB Adrian Martinez will start Saturday’s game at Ohio State. While Martinez (6’2/225) started each of the ten games that he was healthy for last season, HC Scott Frost had yet to release an official depth chart before announcing that the junior will be the team’s starter Monday afternoon. Martinez, who was named a team captain for the second straight season, beat out redshirt freshman Luke McCaffrey for the right to lead the Nebraska offense. In 2019 Martinez completed 59.4 percent of his passes, throwing for 1,956 yards and ten touchdowns with nine interceptions while also rushing for 626 yards and seven touchdowns on 144 carries.
Ohio State Buckeyes Game Notes
Ohio State HC Ryan Day said on Tuesday that he has yet to decide who will back up QB Justin Fields for Saturday’s game vs. Nebraska. Redshirt senior QB Gunnar Hoak (6’4/215) is likely hoping that this undecided race goes better than the last that he was involved in, as Fields beat him out for the starting job ahead of the 2019 season. This time around Hoak is competing with freshmen C.J. Stroud and Jack Miller for the right to serve as Ohio State’s backup signal-caller. Given his prior game experience at both Ohio State and Kentucky, the redshirt senior has the edge in that area.
