Nebraska Cornhuskers Game Notes

Nebraska junior QB Adrian Martinez completed 16-of-27 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 24-17 loss to Minnesota. Don’t judge him for the throwing line — the wind conditions today were prohibitive (15 mph). Martinez (6’2/225) more or less kept Luke McCaffrey affixed to the bench today, a nice change of pace after McCaffrey had cut significantly into Martinez’s playing time earlier this fall. McCaffrey had specifically cut out a niche in the offense with designed running packages. But today, Martinez ran 15 times for 96 yards and a score. McCaffrey, meanwhile, had no carries (while going 0-for-2 for an INT). Nebraska finishes the regular season 2-5 and faces a long offseason searching for answers.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Game Notes

Rutgers HC Greg Schiano said on Monday that he doesn’t expect to name a starting quarterback for Saturday’s game vs. Nebraska until later in the week. Noah Vedral (6’1/195) was knocked out of this past Saturday’s win at Maryland due to a left ankle injury, but the door isn’t closed on him starting against his former team. “We’re going to have to wait and see,” Schiano said. “(Vedral) is working his tail off with treatment and everything else.” Should the redshirt junior not be deemed healthy enough to start Saturday, Artur Sitkowski would receive the starting nod. Sitkowski, who struggled mightily as a starter during his first two seasons, made some big plays down the stretch in the Scarlet Knights’ overtime win over Maryland.
