New Mexico vs. San Diego State Public Betting: Bettors Backing Aztecs

Marucci called in for relief
Santino Marucci went 2-for-4 for 18 yards and an interception against FIU on Tuesday. He also ran three times for 20 yards. Brandon Nunez got the start, but he was so bad Marucci got back in the action, While Marucci himself was removed from the starter role previously, the fact he got the call here seems to indicate he’s the favorite to start next week against WKU.
O’Neil struggles vs. Boise State
Danny O’Neil was 14-for-30 passing for 155 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Friday’s 56-24 loss to Boise State. O’Neil has now been held below 200 passing yards in consecutive starts while throwing three interceptions in that span. Overall, the freshman’s completed 60.3 percent of his passes this season for 1,395 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He’ll look to get back on track next week in a softer matchup with New Mexico.

New Mexico vs. San Diego State Prediction
The Lobos are terrible defensively, ranking 133rd in defensive efficiency in ESPN’s FPI metric. The Aztecs are hardly the Greatest Show on Turf. That said, the Lobos have allowed at least 37 points in every game this season except one – a 17-6 loss at Colorado State a few weeks ago.
Thus, I like the over on the Aztecs’ team total. I’m taking a small leap of faith that San Diego State will score at least 34 points, as the Aztecs haven’t gotten over that number since Week 1. That said, the Aztecs have scored at least 24 points in their last four games and that came against much tougher defenses – Boise State and Washington State, for example – than the one they’ll face tonight.
New Mexico vs. San Diego State Prediction: San Diego State over 33.5 Points (-118)
