North Carolina Tar Heels Game Notes

North Carolina sophomore QB Sam Howell completed 23-of-28 passes for 443 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday’s 44-41 loss to Virginia. It is hard to average over 15 yards per pass and throw four touchdowns, then still lose. And that is obviously no criticism of Howell, it is just an outrageous circumstance. Howell was almost perfect against the Cavaliers, constantly threading the needle to every level of the field. Thanks to his efforts, UNC were able to generate multiple passing plays of over 50 yards, which is not too easy to do. Alas, UNC’s defense gave out and squandered Howell’s performance. UNC will face Duke next week.

Duke Blue Devils Game Notes

Duke redshirt junior QB Chase Brice completed just 8-of-14 passes for 106 yards with a touchdown in a 53-19 rout of Charlotte on Saturday. Duke didn’t need to throw much, as they built a big lead and were able to run for 274 yards and six touchdowns against an overmatched 49ers’ front seven. Brice (6’3/235) was able to at least add a passing touchdown with an eight-yard connection with Jalon Calhoun late in the third quarter to extend the Blue Devils’ lead to 37-13. Duke is now 2-5, and Brice will likely have to throw much more next Saturday against UNC.

North Carolina vs. Duke Betting Prediction

The over is 10-4 in the Tar Heels’ last 14 road games and has cashed in four straight UNC games after the team accumulated more than 450 total yards in its previous contest, which the Heels did last Saturday night versus Virginia. On the other side, the over is 9-2-1 in the Blue Devils’ last 12 home games, is 4-1 in their last five games overall and is 4-0 in their last four games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game.
