North Carolina Tar Heels Game Notes
North Carolina sophomore QB Sam Howell completed 20-of-23 passes for 287 yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran for 41 yards in a 49-9 rout of Western Carolina on Saturday. Howell could have broken records if the Tar Heels were interested in doing so, but this was a game that saw UNC have four different players attempt passes against an FCS school. He fired a 22-yard touchdown to Antoine Green in the first, and a 26-yarder to end the first half to Dazz Newsome that gave North Carolina 42-3 lead. Howell (6’1/225) and UNC won’t be playing for an ACC title this year, but they can play spoiler next Saturday if they beat Miami.
Miami Hurricanes Game Notes
Miami redshirt senior QB D’Eriq King completed 16-of-24 passes for 248 yards with three touchdowns while rushing for 46 yards and a score in a 48-0 blowout over Duke. King’s longest play was an 89-yard touchdown pass to Mike Harley, but he also found Brevin Jordan and Dee Wiggins for touchdowns from 24 and two-yards out, respectively. The dual-threat quarterback also showed off the wheels with an 11-yard touchdown run in a game that Miami dominated from the kickoff. Outside of the Clemson game, King (5’11/202) has looked the part as the starting quarterback, and has brought needed stability to the position. Miami won’t be heading to the ACC Championship, but can go to 9-1 if they beat North Carolina next Saturday.
