North Carolina Tar Heels Game Notes
North Carolina junior QB Sam Howell has been a force both in the air and on the ground for the Tar Heels this season. Howell (6’1/220) has had his fair share of ups and downs this season, and some of the low points can be attributed to those within his supporting cast not always doing their job. He’s been a consistent part of both the passing game and the ground game in recent history, most recently carrying the ball 21 times for 104 yards with two touchdowns. He’s also made defenders miss, forcing 52 missed tackles this season according to Pro Football Focus. That means he’s about to breaks the records of Lamar Jackson (53 in 2016) and Lynn Bowden Jr. (55 in 2019).
Pittsburgh Panthers Game Notes
Pitt senior QB Kenny Pickett completed 28-of-43 passes for 416 yards and three touchdowns in a 54-29 victory over Duke on Saturday. After throwing two costly interceptions last week, Pickett (6’3/200) kept it clean while staying explosive. After getting down 12-7 to the Blue Devils after the first quarter, Pickett threw a beautiful deep ball hitting Jordan Addison in stride for a 47-yard touchdown. Coming out of the half, Pickett led a quick 75-yard drive that ended with a 29-yard screen pass to TE Gavin Montgomery. This was exactly the game Pickett needed to vault his name back into the Heisman Trophy discussion. He was in command all game and even did it on the ground with a nice 22-yard touchdown run. The Panthers host North Carolina in a big game this Thursday night.
