The Odds

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Tar Heels are 3.5-point road favorites versus the Hokies while the total currently sits at 61.5 points. UNC opened as a 6-point favorite earlier this week but the line dropped to 5.5 midweek and is now getting close to the key number of 3.

The Records

North Carolina enters play with a 9-1 record, having lost to only South Carolina in its season opener. The Tar Heels are also 7-3 against the spread while the over/under is 5-5 in their 10 games. As for the Hokies, they’re 5-5 straight up and 5-5 against the number while the over/under is also 5-5 in their 10 games as well.

The Pick

The opening line of 6 for this game was set too high but oddsmakers have seemingly overcorrected, leaving plenty of value with the Tar Heels. Quarterback Marquise Williams and the UNC offense has received plenty of deserved praise over the past couple of weeks but the defense has been equally as impressive. The Tar Heels are allowing just 18.8 points per game this season and while they haven’t played a daunting schedule this season, the Hokies rank 89th in total yards per game (370.2), 86th in passing yards (208.2) and 80th in rushing yards (162.0) offensively. VA Tech won’t be able to throw the ball on UNC’s outstanding pass defense and while the Hokies present an excellent challenge for Williams and CO., the Tar Heels should eventually pull away.
