Northern Illinois favored over Bowling Green in MAC Championship

These two met in last year’s MAC Championship with Bowling Green picking up a 47-27 victory. The Falcons were somewhat fortunate to be in this year’s game, as they were just 5-3 in conference play, but nobody else in the East was able to get above .500. Bowling Green has lost its last two games coming into tonight and is just 4-7-1 against the spread this season.

Northern Illinois is making its fifth straight appearance in the MAC Championship. The Huskies are 2-2 in the last four years in this game. NIU advanced to today’s title game by going 7-1 in the MAC West. The Huskies have won their last six games entering tonight, with the last three games decided by 10 points or less. Northern Illinois is 6-6 against the spread this season.

Oddsmakers feel like Northern Illinois is the favorite in tonight’s game at Ford Field, as oddsmakers from Bovada.lv have made NIU a 6.5-point favorite against Bowling Green tonight at 7PM ET on ESPN2 (View Matchup). The over/under total for the game is listed at 61.5 points. Northern Illinois has won three of its last four against Bowling Green, but the two have split the spread in their last six meetings.

The difference in this game appears to be in the defenses. Both teams are amassing right around the same in offensive production, but the NIU defense is holding opponents to 390.9 yards per game, while the Bowling Green defense is allowing 495.3 yards per contest. The Falcons will have their hands full with Drew Hare, the NIU quarterback that has thrown for 1,879 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 790 yards and seven scores.
