Notre Dame Fighting Irish Game Notes
Notre Dame moved up from No.4 to No.2 in the Associated Press Top-25 poll following their upset win over Clemson on Saturday. As expected, the Fighting Irish made a huge leap after taking down Clemson in overtime. Clemson, the No.1 ranked team before this weekend, fell to fourth, where Notre Dame had previously resided. Notre Dame are still sitting behind Alabama in the poll now, but considering how dominant Alabama have looked themselves, it feels plenty fair that the Crimson Tide get precedent over the top spot despite Notre Dame taking down the No.1 team. Notre Dame will defend their top-two spot against Boston College next week.
Boston College Eagles Game Notes
Boston College redshirt sophomore QB Phil Jurkovec said on Wednesday that he considered changing positions while at Notre Dame. Jurkovec (6’5/226) spoke openly during Wednesday’s media conference, held three days before the Eagles host Notre Dame. The redshirt sophomore was so desperate for playing time that he considered the possibility of switching positions, before ultimately deciding to transfer. “I was debating about switching positions (at Notre Dame) because I don’t think I could have done another year sitting on the bench,” Jurkovec said. “I had to go play somewhere. I was really down. I was basically on the brink of not playing QB.” Boston College is certainly happy that Jurkovec decided to move on, as he is one of the reasons why the Eagles will enter Saturday’s game with a surprising 5-3 record.
Notre Dame vs. Boston College Betting Prediction
The underdog is 9-4 against the spread in the last 13 meetings between these two teams while the Eagles have covered five straight when they’re a home dog. They’re also 22-7-1 in their last 30 conference games, are 19-7-1 in their last 27 games as an underdog and have covered five of their last seven overall. With Notre Dame coming off the huge win last Saturday night at home against previously No. 1 Clemson, this is a legitimate letdown spot. The Irish should still win, but this one will come down to the wire and might turn into as sneaky shootout.
