Notre Dame Fighting Irish Game Notes
Notre Dame redshirt senior QB Ian Book completed 16-of-30 attempts for 212 yards with three touchdowns while adding 40 yards on the ground in a 45-3 blowout victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday. A week after Notre Dame’s offense struggled against Louisville with just 12 points, the Fighting Irish were much better against the Pittsburgh defense on Saturday. Book (6’0/212) did have some protection issues and had to do more scrambling than you’d expect considering how good their offensive lineman is, but he was able to bide time and make plays with his legs and right arm in a very easy victory. Two of the touchdown passes went to Ben Skowronek, and the other to impressive freshman tight end Michael Mayer. If Notre Dame can play like this going forward, they’ve got a real chance at being a playoff team. Speaking of playoff teams, Notre Dame gets Clemson on November 7, but before that they’ll take on Georgia Tech next Saturday.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Game Notes
Georgia Tech freshman QB Jeff Sims completed 12-of-18 passes for 171 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception while rushing 12 times for 47 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 48-27 loss to Boston College. Sims (6’4/205) split time for a bit, but it was clear who the superior QB was. An uber-talented freshman for the Yellow Jackets, interceptions have been a problem for Sims all year, and he threw another against Boston College. Through his other 17 attempts, however, Sims looked as talented as any QB in the country, nailing a handful of intermediate throws that the Eagles couldn’t cover. Sims’ efforts were not enough today, but it is fair to say he did his part despite the loss. Georgia Tech will look to make an unlikely rebound from this 2-4 start next week against Notre Dame.
