Ohio State Season Odds
COLUMBUS, OH (TheSpread) – After winning a national title with a “young” team last season, can anyone stop Ohio State from repeating as champions this season?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Ohio State is currently listed with 3/1 odds to win the College Football Playoffs this upcoming season. The Buckeyes are also listed with odds of -375 to win the Big Ten Championship and Ohio State has a lofty over/under of 11.5 wins for the 2015 season.
Urban Meyer enters his fourth season as head coach of Ohio State and he has made the program a juggernaut quickly. He is 38-3 in three seasons with a perfect 24-0 record in Big Ten play. Last season, despite a loss to Virginia Tech at home, Ohio State sneaked into the college football playoffs and then impressively beat Alabama and Oregon with a third-string quarterback in Cardale Jones.
The Buckeyes couldn’t do much wrong on offense after hitting its groove in Big Ten play last year. The team averaged 44.8 points per game and over 500 yards per game. The defense was solid as well, allowing just 22 points per game. OSU entered the 2014 season with Braxton Miller suffering an injury that sidelined him. J.T. Barrett stepped in and performed tremendously before injuring himself late in the year. That is when Jones took over in the biggest games and led OSU to the title. Now, all three are back for the Buckeyes. Miller is moving to H-back, but Jones and Barrett are battling for the starting QB spot. Don’t be surprised to see both used in some capacity. Along with the trio back, Ohio State also returns Ezekiel Elliott, who rushed for 1,878 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. Elliott had over 200 yards in the final three games, which were the Big Ten Championship and two playoff games. He also has eight rushing scores in those three games.
Ohio State starts the season on the road against Virginia Tech on Monday, Sept. 7 in a revenge game. The Buckeyes then host Hawaii, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan in non-conference play. Big Ten road trips will be made to Indiana, Rutgers, Illinois and Michigan. Home games will be with Maryland, Penn State, Minnesota and Michigan State. The road schedule is pretty smooth. Michigan shouldn’t be ready to match OSU this year, even with Harbaugh. Ohio State has its toughest opponents at home, especially the big game with Michigan State on Nov. 21. Ohio State could easily run the table and, at worst, suffer just one loss in this schedule.
