Howard goes off in win over Tennessee

Will Howard was 24-for-29 passing for 311 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Saturday’s 42-17 victory versus Tennessee. He also had five rushes for 37 yards. Howard closed with 348 total yards and two touchdowns as the Buckeyes walloped the Volunteers in the opening round of the CFB Playoffs. The 6-foot-4 senior quarterback has thrown for 3,171 yards (251-of-343), 29 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season, adding on 168 rushing yards and seven scores with his legs. Howard and the Buckeyes will face a much tougher task on Wednesday when they face off against Oregon in the second round of the CFB Playoffs.

Gabriel throws four touchdown passes vs. PSU

Dillon Gabriel was 22-for-32 passing for 283 yards and four touchdowns during Saturday’s 45-37 win versus Penn State. He also had six rushes for 17 yards. Even with the excellent 2024 Gabriel has been having, he had not logged four passing touchdowns in any games this year until Saturday. This is the type of Gabriel that Oregon’s team will need for comfort in the 2024-25 College Football Playoff, which an undefeated Ducks easily qualified for as its No. 1 seed. In the 2025 Rose Bowl, they will face either No. 9 Tennessee or No. 8 Ohio State on Jan. 1. Gabriel has already faced the latter team this season, having logged 23 completions for 341 passing yards and three total touchdowns (two passing and one rushing) back in Week 7.

Ohio State vs. Oregon CFP Prediction

Take the over. Remember that back-and-forth battle in the Big Ten title game? I can see this game turning out similar. When these two teams met in Eugene, OR back in October, they combined for 63 points in the Ducks’ 32-31 victory.

While both defenses are capable of containing the others offense, I just don’t see this game playing out that way. No team was able to throw for 230 yards on Oregon except for Ohio State. And while the Buckeye defense kept Gabriel from going off like he did against Penn State in the Big Ten title game, the Ducks still scored 32 points.

The college football playoffs have been mostly a bust. I do think this game lives up to the hype.
