Oklahoma State Cowboys Game Notes
Oklahoma State redshirt junior QB Spencer Sanders completed 31-of-46 passes for 257 yards, no touchdowns and four interceptions in Saturday’s 21-16 loss to Baylor. The fact that Oklahoma State threw four interceptions and still only lost by five points is impressive, as Sanders (6’1/205) struggled early in this one. Sanders threw two interceptions in the first quarter alone, and then threw another two in the third quarter. Baylor led 21-6 at halftime, but was shutout in the second half, as Oklahoma State attempted to chip away at the deficit. Sanders had the Cowboys down near the goal line with 35 seconds left in the game, but four straight failed attempts to score led to a turnover on downs and Baylor walking away with a Big 12 championship. Oklahoma State still has a bowl game to play, but they may have narrowly missed a shot at a college football playoff berth depending on how the rest of Saturday’s games play out.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Game Notes
Notre Dame senior QB Jack Coan completed 15-of-20 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns in Notre Dame’s 55-0 win over Georgia Tech. Coan (6’3″/220) effectively managed the game, as Georgia Tech put up zero resistance against a dominant Notre Dame team. Notre Dame scored 24 points in the first quarter, with one of those being a 55-yard catch and run by Michael Mayer, who was wide open down the seam. Coan’s other touchdown was a well worked screen. Notre Dame’s defense and run game didn’t leave much for Coan to do, but he still made the most of his opportunities, and he only played the first half. Notre Dame has been rolling recently, and Coan playing efficient, low-mistake football has been a big part of that. Notre Dame finishes their regular season against a struggling Stanford squad that has lost six straight.
