Oklahoma Sooners Game Notes
Oklahoma redshirt freshman QB Spencer Rattler leads the power five in most completions 20+ yards downfield with nine. Rattler (6’1″/205) is tied with Louisville QB Malik Cunningham for most deep completions of 20 or more yards downfield, though Cunningham has played one more game. Rattler’s arm strength was never in question, however his two interceptions against Kansas State shows he still has some maturing to do. The talented redshirt-freshman is only two games into his college career but is averaging 338 passing yards and four touchdowns passes per game. Oklahoma will try to bounce back with a win against Iowa State on Saturday.
Iowa State Cyclones Game Notes
Iowa State junior QB Brock Purdy completed 18-of-22 passes for 211 yards and one touchdown in Saturday’s 37-34 win over TCU. Purdy (6’1/212) got back on track after he struggled mightily in the opening-season upset loss to Louisiana (145 yards, 0/1 TD/INT, 4.1 YPA). With Breece Hall rolling, the Cyclones needed efficiency and ball-security out of Purdy, not necessarily explosion. He delivered. Purdy, who was PFF’s No. 11-rated passer in each of the past two seasons, is a potential Day 2 pick in next spring’s draft if he decides to forgo his final season of college.
