Oklahoma Sooners Game Notes
Oklahoma freshman QB Caleb Williams went 8 of 18 for 87 yards, throwing for a touchdown and running for another as the Sooners escaped with a 28-21 victory over Iowa State. It was the second ugly stat line in as many weeks for Williams, but the scoreboard proved a big difference as Oklahoma bounced back from its first loss of the season at Baylor to edge Iowa State in a close contest. Williams accounted for the biggest offensive play of the day, a 74-yard scamper that tied the game at 7-7 midway through the first quarter. He was kept in check on the ground the rest of the way, accounting for a total of 68 rushing yards, but added an 11-yard touchdown to Mario Williams in the third quarter to put the Sooners up 21-7. Oklahoma (10-1) maintains an inside track on a spot in the Big XII title game and kept alive faint hopes of landing a playoff spot with wins over the next two weeks.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Game Notes
Oklahoma State Head Coach Mike Gundy and his Cowboys climbed to seventh in the latest College Football Playoff rankings that were released on Tuesday night. Throughout the second half of the season, the Cowboys have been lurking around the top ten. After two very impressive performances the last two weeks by a score of 86-0, Gundy has the Cowboys sitting in a great spot. While they are on the outside looking in currently, wins over Oklahoma on Saturday and either Oklahoma or Baylor in the Big-12 Championship Game the following week, they will have a fantastic resume to be a playoff team.
