Ole Miss Rebels Game Notes
Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin was fined $25,000 for criticizing the officiating in last Saturday’s game between Ole Miss and Auburn. With 5:43 left in the fourth quarter, Ole Miss kicked off leading by one. The kick appeared to nick Auburn KR Shaun Shivers’ finger before rolling into the end zone. Instead of ruling the ball a fumble, the official blew the play dead and called a touchback. Kiffin said an official told him the play was briefly reviewed and upheld. That apparently wasn’t the case. The SEC later said the officials made a mistake and the play should have been reviewed. Auburn kept the ball and drove for a winning touchdown. Kiffin retweeted a post that called the officiating a disgrace, which the SEC said in a statement violated a conference bylaw that stipulated that “[c]riticism of officials or the officiating program by institutional personnel is absolutely prohibited,” and comments on officiating “are to be directed only to the Conference office.”
Vanderbilt Commodores Game Notes
Vanderbilt junior RB Ja’Veon Marlow (undisclosed) participated on Tuesday’s practice according to 247Sports.com’s Robbie Weinstein. Marlow (5’11/195), who has not played since October 10, is not listed on the depth chart released ahead of Saturday’s game vs. Mississippi. But the junior running back, who still leads the Commodores in rushing yards, was able to practice Tuesday. Whether or not he’ll be able to play this weekend is unknown, with HC Derek Mason saying that “anything’s possible” when asked if players not listed on the depth chart could possibly see action. Keyon Henry-Brooks is currently listed as the starting running back.
