Oregon State Game Notes
Oregon State has used three running backs to great effect this season. They’re led by Deshaun Fenwick who leads the Beavers in carries, yards, and rushing touchdowns. The other two running backs are Jam Griffin and Damien Martinez. Both secondary backs have 20+ carries, 120+ rushing yards, and at least one rushing touchdown on the season. If Oregon State is going to cover this game, they’ll likely need to run the ball effectively so that they don’t put everything on QB Chance Nolan’s shoulders. Nolan threw 4 interceptions in the Beavers’ home loss to USC last weekend, and Oregon State will have a difficult time covering this game if he turns the ball over multiple times again. A note to that effect: Utah is tied for 20th in the country with an average turnover margin of +1 per game.
Utah Game Notes
For Utah, it’s all about their defense. The Utes gave up 29 points to Florida in week 1 as the Gators got an otherworldly performance from their quarterback Anthony Richardson. But since then, Utah has only allowed 27 total points in 3 games. Their leading tackler is safety Cole Bishop who also has 2 passes defended, a sack, and an interception on the season. As for rushing the passer, the Utes can do that too. Defensive ends Gabe Reid and Van Fillinger both have 2.5 sacks on the season, and they combined for 3 sacks in the Utes’ win over Arizona State last weekend. If Utah can hold Oregon State to under 17 points like the Utes do on average (16.3 points allowed per game) they have a good chance of winning and covering this game.

Oregon State vs. Utah Betting Prediction
Utah won the Pac-12 last season and nearly won the Rose Bowl against Ohio State. The Utes’ only conference hiccup last year was a 42-34 loss to Oregon State in Corvallis, OR. Many of the players from that team are back and there’s no doubt that they’ll want to avenge that loss this season. Many people might be on Oregon State because they held USC to 17 points last week. But it’s worth noting that USC ran for 177 yards on 4.8 yards per carry. I think Utah is a better running team than USC and that combined with the potential for Oregon State turnovers and the revenge factor leads me to my pick. I’ll lay the points with Utah.
