Badgers fall in Big Ten title game
Prior to Clemson, Wisconsin gave Ohio State its toughest challenge in the Big Ten Championship Game, but still suffered a 34-21 loss after holding a big lead early. That loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Badgers. The Badgers are 10-3 on the season, 8-5 against the spread and 7-6 with the under.
Like usual, Wisconsin is one of the better defensive teams in the country. The Badgers are giving up just 16.1 points and 295.2 yards per game this season. Both Chris Orr and Zach Baun have combined for 143 tackles and 24 sacks. Offensively, Wisconsin is averaging 34.6 points and 442.3 yards per game. Jonathan Taylor is leading the Wisconsin offense with 1,909 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Jack Coan has thrown for 2,541 yards and 17 touchdowns, while Quintez Cephus is the leading receiver with 52 catches for 842 yards and six touchdowns.
Ducks win Pac-12
If not for a 31-28 loss at Arizona State, Oregon may have been in the College Football Playoffs. The Ducks suffered a close loss to Auburn in the opener, but won all other games, including an impressive 37-15 win over Utah in the Pac-12 Championship Game. The Ducks are 11-2 on the season, 7-6 against the spread and 7-6 with the under.
Oregon is a strong defensive team, bucking from the trends of past Oregon squads. The Ducks are giving up just 15.7 points and 331.1 yards per game. Kayvon Thibodeaux is leading the unit with 34 tackles and nine sacks. Offensively, Oregon is putting up 35.9 points and 453.3 yards per game. Justin Herbert has thrown for 3,333 yards and 32 touchdowns to lead the offense while CJ Verdell has rushed for 1,171 yards and eight touchdowns. Johnny Johnson III is the top receiver with 55 catches for 818 yards and seven scores.
College Football Betting Trends
Wisconsin
The Badgers have hit the under in four of their last five non-conference games and they are 3-1-1 with the under in their last five bowl games.
Oregon
The Ducks have hit the under in four of their last five against Big Ten opponents and in seven of their last 10 games on grass.
Prediction:
I am surprised to see this total more than 50 points. These are two physical defenses that I think are going to cancel each other out offensively. Wisconsin has a great pass rush that will give Herbert a lot of trouble, while the Ducks have a defensive front that can keep Taylor from breaking open many big runs. I don’t trust Coan to carve up the Oregon secondary either. I feel Oregon has the more explosive talent on offense, but I don’t think we are going to see many explosive plays in this one. Look for a lot of defense and few points.
Rose Bowl Prediction: Wisconsin/Oregon Under 51.5
