Allen scores two TDs vs. SMU

Kaytron Allen had 11 rushes for 70 yards and two touchdowns and caught 2 of 3 targets for 28 yards during Saturday’s 38-10 win against Southern Methodist. Allen posted 98 total yards and two scores as the Nittany Lions steamrolled the Mustangs in the first round of the CFB Playoffs. The 5-foot-11 junior has logged 1,039 total yards and 10 touchdowns on 201 touches this season. Allen and Nicholas Singleton will have the tall task of trying to match Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty’s production on the ground during Tuesday’s game against Boise State in the second round of the CFB Playoffs.

Jeanty brilliant in conference title game

Ashton Jeanty recorded 32 rushes for 209 yards and one touchdown and reeled in all two targets for 14 yards during Friday’s 21-7 win against UNLV. Jeanty topped the 200-yard mark for the sixth time this season in a win over UNLV in the Mountain West title game. At this point, what more can be said about the inevitable Jeanty that hasn’t been said before? He’s one of the greatest college running backs of all time, and he’ll look to help Boise State shock the world in the College Football Playoff.

Penn State is 12-2 SU in its last 14 games

Penn State vs. Boise State CFP Prediction

I know I probably shouldn’t, but I’m biting. I know I should just lay the 11 with the better overall team that was actually tested all season by playing in a much better conference. But I’m biting.

Jeanty is special and Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen is having an excellent season. Most college football fans just haven’t heard of Madsen because he plays in the same offense as Jeanty. It’s difficult to compare metrics when one team played in the Mountain West and the other played in the Big Ten, but the Broncos also have a solid defense.

That said, here’s the main reason I’m taking the points with Boise: Tonight will be Penn State’s 15th game of the season. That’s a ton of football. We’re a few games past every PSU player’s season-high. I think back to Army’s game against Navy a few weeks ago. After playing an 11-game regular season and then Tulane in the American Athletic Conference title game, the Black Knights faced the Midshipmen in their 14th game. Army, despite all of its discipline and physical play, just didn’t have it that day.

I know, I know – Penn State isn’t Army. But 15 games? That’s a ton. Plus travel, plus an unfamiliar opponent. After the first-round games failed to live up to the hype, I think we’ll get our first close playoff game of the new format.

Penn State vs. Boise State CFP Prediction: Boise State Broncos +11
