Pittsburgh Panthers Game Notes

Pitt senior QB Kenny Pickett completed 22-of-39 passes for 209 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions in a 52-17 loss to Clemson on Saturday. Pickett (6’2/220) was simply overmatched against a ferocious Clemson front seven that pressured the senior signal caller relentlessly. It didn’t take long for the Tigers to jump on him, as the besieged quarterback threw a staggering three interceptions in the first quarter alone, with CU cashing in all three for points, as the ACC champs took a 31-0 lead before the second quarter even started. The rest of the game was a mere formality, as the Panthers were clearly out of their depth against the vaunted Clemson defense. Pitt closes out the regular season on Thursday, December 10 against Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Game Notes

Georgia Tech redshirt junior RB Jordan Mason carried the football 21 times for 99 yards in Saturday’s 23-13 loss at NC State. Mason (6’1/215), who also caught two passes for eight yards, had a solid day at the office as he averaged 4.7 yards per carry. The redshirt junior running back combined with QB Jeff Sims to account for 38 of the Yellow Jackets’ 51 rushing attempts against NC State, with Georgia Tech putting up a solid 261 yards. The team’s inability to consistently make plays in the passing game is what did in Geoff Collins’ team, which is to be expected when you have a freshman quarterback. In Georgia Tech’s last two games Mason has rushed for 204 yards on 42 carries, and he’ll look to build on that production Thursday when Pitt visits Atlanta.
