Purdue drops conference opener
Purdue got Big Ten play started last weekend and suffered a 38-31 loss at home to Minnesota. The Boilermakers are 1-3 on the season, 0-1 in the Big Ten, 1-3 against the spread and 3-1 with the over.
The Boilermakers are giving up 32.5 points and 451 yards per game on defense. The Purdue offense is putting up 29.3 points and 419.3 yards per game on offense this season, but the Boilers took a big hit last weekend. With Elijah Sindelar out for the season with a collarbone injury and now stud receiver Rondale Moore is out with a knee injury. Moore has 387 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Sindelar has thrown for 978 yards and nine touchdowns. Jack Plummer has taken over at QB. He has thrown for 426 yards and three touchdowns this year. King Doerue is the team’s leading rusher, but has just 131 yards and two touchdowns.
Penn State dominates Maryland
The Nittany Lions dominated Maryland on the road to start Big Ten play last weekend, 59-0. Penn State is off to a 4-0 start overall and the Nittany Lions are 1-0 in the Big Ten, 3-1 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.
Penn State is dominant on both sides of the ball this season. The Nittany Lions are putting up 50 points and 509.5 yards per game on offense while giving up 7.5 points and 274.5 yards per game on defense. Sean Clifford has thrown for 1,179 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the offense. He also has rushed for 167 yards and a score. Journey Brown is the team’s leading rusher with 196 yards and three touchdowns, but he is questionable to play this week with a knee injury. KJ Hamler is the team’s leading receiver with 16 catches for 353 yards and three touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Purdue
The Boilermakers are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games following a loss, but 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.
Penn State
The Nittany Lions are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games in October and 17-6-2 ATS in their last 25 home games.
Prediction:
Penn State has won its last eight meetings with Purdue, covering the spread in three straight meetings as well. The Nittany Lions have looked solid in every game outside of Pitt. They went on the road and just ran over Maryland. Purdue’s defense isn’t good, so expect the Nittany Lions to have no problem scoring. With Purdue facing big injuries to their QB and RB, I think the Boilermakers are really going to struggle to score in Happy Valley. Go with the Nittany Lions to win big.
College Football Week 6 Prediction: Penn State -27.5
