Purdue Boilermakers Game Notes
Purdue redshirt junior QB Aiden O’Connell (undisclosed) is considered a game-time decision against Minnesota this Friday. O’Connell (6’3/210) completed 28-of-51 passing attempts for 263 yards with two touchdowns in a 27-20 loss on Saturday to Northwestern. There was no mention of an injury in the game and the redshirt junior signal caller took all the snaps. HC Jeff Brohm declined to give any specifics, so it’s hard to predict whether or not O’Connell is likely to play or not. We will have to sit tight and wait to see who is on the field with the first-team during warmups Friday night against the Gophers.
Minnesota Golden Gophers Game Notes
Minnesota redshirt junior QB Tanner Morgan completed just 16-of-33 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in Friday’s 35-7 loss to Iowa. It’s unfortunate to see Morgan, who was a wildcard contender for the QB4 spot in the 2021 draft class, continue to fall apart. Like many other games this year, Morgan struggled on anything beyond wide-open RPOs (run-pass options). He consistently found WR Rashod Bateman on those plays, but everything else was a disaster, which was only exacerbated by the fact that Minnesota was behind the entire game and needed to keep throwing. Morgan provided absolutely nothing on the ground, either, even though he is capable of doing so. Minnesota are now 1-3 with a game against Purdue on schedule for next Friday.
Purdue vs. Minnesota Betting Prediction
The Boilermakers are 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, are 8-3 against the number in their last 11 games overall and are 6-2 at the betting window in their last eight games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous contest. On the other side, the Golden Gophers are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games as an underdog and have failed to cover in four of their last five conference games.
