According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Golden Bears are now a 3-point home underdog versus the Bruins after opening as a 5.5-point dog. As for the total, the number hit the board at 71 and has been bet down to 70.5 at the majority of online and Vegas sports books.

The Bruins are coming off an ugly 36-14 loss to red-hot USC and have now dropped five of their last six games. They’ve done okay against the spread over that span, covering in three of their last five games, although they couldn’t muster a cover last Saturday night as a 13-point home dog against their biggest rival. UCLA is having another down season under Jim Mora, losing seven of 11 overall and going just 4-7 against the spread. Granted, the Bruins lost starting quarterback Josh Rosen but their play was hapless long before Rosen went down.
The Golden Bears are in a massive funk, losing four straight games while failing to cover the spread in four straight as well. The biggest problem has been their defense, which has surrendered 47, 49, 45, 66, 56 and 45 points over their last six games. Their 45-31 loss to Stanford last week dropped Cal to 4-7 both straight up and against the spread in 2016. They are 3-2 at the betting window in their five home games this year, however.

OUR PREDICTION: Even though the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams, you read the numbers above: There’s no sense in betting the under in a game that involves Cal. The over is 10-3 in the Golden Bears’ last 13 games overall and is 7-3 in their last 10 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game. The over is also 6-1 in Cal’s last seven home games and is 5-2 in UCLA’s last seven games coming off a loss.
