Michigan throttled by Badgers
Michigan had one of its worst losses of the Jim Harbaugh era last weekend in a 35-14 loss at Wisconsin. The Wolverines are now 2-1 on the season, 0-1 in the Big Ten, 3-0 against the spread and 2-1 with the over.
The Wolverines have taken a step back on defense this year, giving up 25.7 points and 343.7 yards per contest. Offensively, Michigan is only putting up 26 points and 364 yards per contest. Shea Patterson has thrown for 629 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Wolverines while Zach Charbonnet has rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns on 43 carries. Ronnie Bell is the leading receiver with 11 catches for 180 yards while Jordan Glasgow is leading the defense with 24 tackles and two sacks.
Rutgers fall to BC
Rutgers suffered a second straight loss on Saturday when the Knights were beaten at home by Boston College, 30-16. Rutgers comes into this weekend 1-2 on the season, 0-1 in the Big Ten, 1-2 against the spread and 2-1 with the under.
The Knights haven’t had much of an offense to rely on, averaging just 21.3 points and 353 yards per game. Defensively, Rutgers is giving up 27 points and 392.7 yards per contest. McLane Carter has thrown for 368 yards and two touchdowns, but he sat out last game with a concussion and is questionable for this game. Artur Sitkowski has thrown for 323 yards and a TD. Raheem Blackshear has caught 22 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns while Isaih Pacheco is the leading rusher with 239 yards and four touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Michigan
The Wolverines have failed to cover in four straight home games and they are 1-4 ATS in their last five games in September.
Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights are 5-1 against the spread in their last six Big Ten games and 5-1 ATS in their last six following a loss.
Prediction:
Rutgers has actually covered the spread in the last two meeting with Michigan, but the Wolverines have still had comfortable wins over the Knights the last four years. Michigan has looked awful offensively thus far, but the Wolverines tend to beat up on bad opponents. Given their awful showing last week, I would think Michigan will come out angry today and want to really beat up on the lesser opponent. Rutgers is banged up and just doesn’t have the talent that Michigan has in order to be competitive today.
College Football Week 5 Prediction: Michigan -27.5
