Rutgers vs. Ohio State Prediction

Big Ten rivals meet at the Horse Shoe on Saturday night when Ohio State hosts Rutgers at 7:30 p.m. ET. Are the Buckeyes laying too many points as whopping 39-point home favorite or will OSU roll coming off back-to-back wins to open its season?

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Game Notes

Rutgers redshirt junior QB Noah Vedral completed 21-of-34 passes for 128 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in a 37-21 loss to Indiana on Saturday. Vedral (6’1/195) was unable to recreate his Michigan State upset magic this week, as the Indiana pass rush was able to harass the Scarlet Knight signal-caller into making multiple mistakes. Two of his interceptions were the result of being hit while thrown, causing the passes to go astray. However the third was an indefensible throw across his body while fading out of bounds where an Indiana defender was able to step in front of his receiver and pick it off. Vedral did make a pair of very nice touchdown throws to WR Bo Melton, but they were not enough to overcome his miscues. Rutgers will travel to Columbus next Saturday to take on Ohio State.

Ohio State Buckeyes Game Notes

Ohio State junior QB Justin Fields completed 28-of-34 passes for 318 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday’s 38-25 win over Penn State. Typically, Fields’ passing efforts are complemented in part by his rushing ability, but that was not the case here. Fields (6’3/228) finished the day with -4 rushing yards. Instead, his wonderful passing efforts stood by themselves, further solidifying Fields as a clear top-two QB prospect for the 2021 class. All throughout the evening, Fields did a great job finding and trusting his top wide receiver, Chris Olave. Expect Fields to continue tearing up the competition, regardless of who lines up across from him.

Rutgers vs. Ohio State Betting Prediction

With Ohio State coming off its big win over Penn State on the road last week, this is a natural letdown spot against a Rutgers program that has been one of the doormats in the Big Ten over the years. Plus, with limited fans in the stands, it won’t feel like one of their typical big Saturday night matchups at the Horse Shoe for the Buckeyes, who are 0-5 against the spread in their last five games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. Rutgers, meanwhile, has covered the number in six of its last eight games played in the month of November.
