SEC Conference Prediction
Can someone in the SEC keep Alabama from picking up another conference title during the 2019 season, or will the Crimson Tide earn another championship?
According to oddsmakers, Alabama is the favorite to win the SEC this year, as the Tide have -140 odds. Other short odds to win are Georgia (+275), LSU (+1000) and Florida (+1200).
Bet on College Football Futures Odds
Alabama has won the SEC Championship Game eight times in program history, most of any program in the conference. The Tide have won five of the last seven years. Bama was the national championship runner-up last year and has 13 starters back this season, led by Heisman finalist at QB, Tua Tagovailoa.
Georgia has been the team the best challenge Alabama in recent years. The Bulldogs won the SEC Championship in 2017 and they have won the title game three times in program history. Georgia was 7-1 in the SEC last year and has 13 starters back this season. Leading the way is QB Jake Fromm.
LSU has won the SEC Championship Game four times in program history, with the last title coming in 2011. The Tigers were 5-3 in the SEC last season, which included a 29-0 loss to Bama. LSU has 17 starters back this season, including eight on a strong defense.
Florida has won the SEC Championship Game seven times in program history, with the last title coming in 2008. The Gators were 5-3 in the SEC last year, the first year under new coach Dan Mullen. They return 15 starters this year, including Feleipe Franks at quarterback.
The SEC looks like it should be more competitive this year than in past seasons, but you also have to like the upward trend that Georgia has shown in recent years. Fromm is a very capable QB that gets overshadowed by the likes of Tua and Trevor Lawrence from Clemson. I think the Bulldogs can get the job done this year. Alabama was exposed by Clemson last year and a lot of the mystique that Bama carries is no longer there. The Tide have assistants leaving all over the place and that should carry an impact at some point. I am going to take my chances on Georgia winning the SEC this year.
