SMU vs. Temple Prediction

SMU Mustangs Game Notes

SMU redshirt freshman QB Terrance Gipson entered the transfer portal. Gipson (6’0/186) is a former three-star prospect who was rated as the 20th best dual-threat quarterback from the 2019 recruiting cycle. The Houston, TX native had been serving as Shane Buechele’s primary backup, so his loss will significantly hurt SMU’s depth at the position. HC Sonny Dykes will now turn to inexperienced former walk-on Derek Green should anything happen to Buechele. Gipson appeared in six games for the Mustangs, completing six-of-six passes for 86 yards while rushing for 56 yards and one touchdown.

Temple Owls Game Notes

Temple redshirt senior QB Anthony Russo has been ruled out for Saturday’s game vs. SMU due to a shoulder injury. Russo (6’4/240) was held out of this past weekend’s 38-3 loss at Tulane, with redshirt sophomore Trad Beatty starting in his place. The only positive for the Owls in this is that Russo was not one of the 13 players held out of the game due to COVID-19 protocols. Backup QB Re-al Mitchell was also held out of Saturday’s game, but no reason was given for his absence by the school. If he isn’t available, it will likely be Beatty under center once again when Temple hosts SMU.

SMU vs. Temple Betting Prediction

The Mustangs are 1-6 against the spread in their last seven road games, are 1-6 against the number in their last seven games played in the month of November and are 1-4 at the betting window in their last five games as a road favorite. On the other side, the Owls have covered in 20 of their last 27 games played in November, are 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 games as a home dog and are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
