SMU Mustangs Game Notes

SMU redshirt senior QB Shane Buechele completed 24-of-35 passes for 355 yards with four touchdowns in a 47-23 win on Saturday over Temple. The Mustangs have shown that 2019 was no fluke, and have moved to 7-1 on the season. Buechele (6’1/207) is largely responsible for the strong play, and has another big night against an overmatched Temple defense. He found Tyler Page for two of his scores, with star tight end Kylen Granson along with Rashee Rice picking up touchdowns as well. The former Texas Longhorn quarterback has now thrown 20 touchdowns against three interceptions, and NFL scouts are likely taking a close look at this production. SMU can move to 8-1 next Saturday if they beat Tulsa — assuming the game is able to be played.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane Game Notes

Tulsa redshirt senior QB Zach Smith completed 19-of-37 passes for 253 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in Friday’s 34-30 win over ECU. Tulsa was down early in this one. In fact, they entered the half with a 17-3 deficit, thanks in large part to a pair of interceptions via Smith. However, the veteran QB bounced back in the second half, helping Tulsa outscore ECU 31-13 over the final two quarters. It would be nice if Smith did not put his team in a deficit to begin with, but it is encouraging that he has enough in the arsenal to be able to help pull them back in a game like this. Tulsa face Navy next week.

On the other side, the Mustangs are just 2-6 against the spread in their last eight road games, have failed to cover in seven of their last 10 games as a road favorite and are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games played in the month of November.
