South Alabama Jaguars Game Notes
South Alabama junior QB Desmond Trotter completed eight-of-12 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday’s 38-14 win over Louisiana-Monroe. It did not take many tries for Trotter to put up a stellar three-score game. He scored once every four attempts, relentlessly pushing the ball down the field against a putrid ULM defense. All three of his touchdowns went to wide receiver Kawaan Baker, who had the game of his life. Trotter has been splitting time with QB Chase Lovertich throughout the season, partly due to injury, but this kind of performance is what propels a player fully into the starting lineup. Look out for more Trotter moving forward.
Georgia Southern Eagles Game Notes
Georgia Southern redshirt senior QB Shai Werts completed 7-of-20 passes for 94 yards and two interceptions in a 28-14 loss to Coastal Carolina on Saturday. Werts (5’11/205) was woeful as Georgia Southern could barely move the ball against the undefeated Chanticleers’ defense, converting only 2-of-12 third-downs and gaining only 218 total yards. There wasn’t much that the redshirt senior did well today, as he also rushed 16 times for a mere 36 yards. Werts had dominated UMass to the tune of four touchdowns in a 41-0 blowout last week, but was unable to carry over that performance against CCU. They’ll try to bounce back on Thursday against South Alabama.
