South Carolina vs. LSU, 10/24/20 College Football Week 8 Predictions

South Carolina vs. LSU Prediction

The national champs have started the season 1-2 and their defense struggled mightily in their two losses. Will LSU rebound on Saturday night when it hosts SEC rival South Carolina at 7:00 p.m. ET?

Game Snapshot

361 South Carolina Gamecocks (+7) at 362 LSU Tigers (-7); o/u 55.5

Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA

7:00 p.m. ET, Saturday, October 24, 2020

South Carolina Gamecocks Game Notes

South Carolina redshirt senior QB Collin Hill completed 15-of-24 passes for 144 yards with a touchdown and interception in Saturday’s 30-22 win over Auburn. Hill (6’5/214) also ran for a short touchdown. Statistically, not much doing, but Hill has shown he can be the game manager that South Carolina needs him to be. The passing offense revolves around feeding Shi Smith in the short-to-intermediate range and minimizing mistakes, tasks Hill is capable of. The 2-2 Gamecocks have a big game next week against LSU.

LSU Tigers Game Notes

LSU redshirt junior QB Myles Brennan (abdomen) is not expected to play Saturday against South Carolina. Brennan (6’4/207) suffered the injury in a 45-41 loss to Missouri when he played three quarters with a torn abdominal muscle near his hip and still managed to throw for 430 yards and four touchdowns. With their game against Florida last week postponed due to COVID-19 related concerns, Brennan got an extra week to heal but it appears that won’t be enough. HC Orgeron said bluntly “We don’t think Myles Brennan is going to play.” Should he not be able to suit up, true freshmen TJ Finley and Max Johnson would compete for the right to start against South Carolina this Saturday.

South Carolina vs. LSU Betting Prediction

The road team has covered in five straight meetings between these two teams, while LSU is just 1-4 at the betting window in its last five games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in its previous contest. South Carolina, meanwhile, is 9-2-1 against the spread in its last 12 games as a road underdog, is 15-7-2 against the number in its last 24 games as an underdog of any kind and is 3-0-1 against the spread in its last four games overall. Until LSU proves that it can slow down anyone defensively, there’s no reason to lay a lot of points with the Tigers.
