South Carolina Gamecocks Game Notes

South Carolina redshirt freshman QB Luke Doty completed 20-of-34 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown in South Carolina’s 23-14 win over Troy. It was a defense and special teams win for the Gamecocks, who forced four turnovers (scoring one on and should’ve scored on another), blocked a punt and kicked three field goals, but Doty (6’1″/210) didn’t make many mistakes except one fumble in the 4th quarter and did what he had to do to win. Doty delivered a great ball to E.J. Jenkins on a rollout to his right, putting it high for his 6’7″ receiver to reach and snag it and get into the end zone basically untouched. Doty travels to Tennessee next Saturday for a tougher test.

Tennessee Volunteers Game Notes

Tennessee redshirt junior QB Hendon Hooker helped the Vols snatch the momentum early against Mizzou. Hooker (6’4/218) and the Tennessee Volunteers came out swinging against the Missouri Tigers, marching down the field in quick fashion to get a touchdown on their opening drive. On the scoring play, Hooker connected with Mississippi State transfer JaVonta Payton for a 35-yard touchdown. So far, Hooker has completed 9-of-11 passes for 150 yards with two touchdowns as the Vols lead Mizzou, 45-10 in a game that’s quickly gotten out of control for the latter team ahead of halftime.
