Ellington to return to football
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Bruce Ellington is going back to being a two-sport athlete after returning to football practice.
Ellington announced two weeks ago that he would concentrate solely on basketball next season and give up playing football for coach Steve Spurrier. However, Ellington was out with his football teammates Tuesday, the same day the Gamecocks hired new basketball coach Frank Martin.

Martin was asked about Ellington’s status at his introductory press conference, but said he didn’t know Ellington well enough to discuss the situation.
Ellington was a key member of both squads last season. He accounted for 707 yards as a kick returner and receiver last fall, making the all-Southeastern Conference freshman team.
Ellington was the basketball team’s second-leading scorer, despite missing seven games because of his football commitment.
