Stanford Cardinal Game Notes
Stanford redshirt junior QB Davis Mills completed 30-of-55 passes for 333 yards and one touchdown in Saturday’s 35-32 loss to Colorado. Mills (6’2/214) was cleared to return to the field against Colorado after he missed last week’s loss to Oregon with what turned out to be a false-positive coronavirus test. Because of that scare, Mills was actually confined to self-isolation all the way up until Thursday of this week. Mills has a really, really strong arm, and when he’s seeing the field well, he also shows strong functional mobility and nice touch. But he hasn’t yet learned how to consistently beat the defense deep with that big right arm. The ball can sail long on him, or wide. Now 0-2, Stanford will try to pick up the pieces against Washington State next week.
California Golden Bears Game Notes
Cal junior RB Christopher Brown could be available for Friday’s game vs. Stanford after sitting out last week due to an undisclosed injury. Brown (6’1/230) was not one of the players quarantined ahead of last weekend’s loss at Oregon State, so there is a chance that he’ll be able to play against the rival Cardinal. The junior running back saw action in Cal’s season-opening loss at UCLA but he wasn’t very effective, rushing for 25 yards on eight carries.
Stanford vs. Cal Betting Prediction
The Cardinal is 6-2 against the spread in its last eight meetings with the Golden Bears, which includes a 5-0 ATS record in its last five trips to Berkeley. The road team has also dominated this series, covering in all four of the last four meetings while the favorite is 7-1 against the spread in the last eight meetings. Cal is also just 1-6 against the spread in its last seven home games and is 10-25 against the number in its last 35 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in its previous game.
