Syracuse Orange Game Notes

Syracuse redshirt senior QB Rex Culpepper completed 19-of-40 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-21 loss to Liberty this Saturday. Culpepper (6’2/221) struggled to consistently move the Syracuse offense, converting only three-of-14 third down opportunities and leading the offense to a pedestrian 308 total yards. His 5.3 YPA and sub-50 percent completion rate and 28.0 QBR pretty much sum up his lackluster showing. His best throw was a 17-yard touchdown strike to Taj Harris for Syracuse’s opening score and Culpepper has grit, but Syracuse is in rough shape this year. The Orange have the pleasure of traveling to play ACC bully Clemson next Saturday.

Clemson Tigers Game Notes

According to Pro Football Focus, Clemson junior QB Trevor Lawrence’s 79% accuracy rating on passes beyond ten yards is the best in the country. And, of course, the race is not close. The next-best player behind Lawrence (6’6/220) in this category is Florida State QB Travis Wilson, who sits at just 59% accuracy, a full 20% behind Lawrence. Sure, Clemson have not gotten into the bulk of their schedule yet, but a 79% accuracy rating beyond 10 yards while even facing middling schools is a near-impossible task. And yet, Lawrence has pulled it off so far. While this number should be expected to come down a little bit by season’s end, do not expect Lawrence’s ranking to change. The man is on fire and is playing every bit as well as the presumptive No.1 pick should be expected to.

Syracuse vs. Clemson Betting Prediction

The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two teams, is 10-4 in the Orange’s last 14 games as a road underdog and is 29-13-1 in their last 43 road games versus an opponent with a winning home record. On the other side, the under is 8-2 in the Tigers’ last 10 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game and has cashed in five of their last seven games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous contest.
