TCU suspends Boykin, Oregon now favored

Following his arrest early Thursday morning, Trevone Boykin has officially been suspended for Saturday’s bowl game against Oregon.

The TCU quarterback was arrested on a third degree felony charge for striking an officer following an altercation outside of a bar early Thursday morning. ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reported that Boykin checked in when coaches conducted curfew, but then snuck out afterward. Junior receiver Preston Miller was also suspended.

Now that Boykin has officially been suspended, oddsmakers in Las Vegas have adjusted the point spread for Saturday’s Alamo Bowl. After opening as a 1.5-point favorite over Oregon, TCU is now a 7-point underdog at several online and Vegas sports books. The total has also changed, dropping from 78 down to 73.

Either Bram Kohlhausen or Foster Sawyer will draw the start for the Horned Frogs on Saturday. Kohlhausen stepped in after Boykin was injured in a game earlier this season versus Kansas, leading TCU to a 23-17 victory. The next week against Oklahoma, Kohlhausen started but was replaced by Foster Sawyer as the two combined to throw for 219 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions.

Without Boykin, the Horned Frogs averaged just 26 points per game, compared to the 44.8 average with him under center.
