TCU rolls in opener
The TCU Horned Frogs opened their season with a dominant 55-7 win over Southern. Remarkably, the Horned Frogs didn’t cover the 49.5-point spread in the win, but did go over the 58.5-point total. They have hit the over in three of their last four games coming into this week’s game.
In the opener, TCU put up 499 yards of offense while allowing just 185 to Southern. A steady run game produced 235 rushing yards on 42 carries with two scores. Shawn Robinson found the end zone twice on his two carries for 45 yards. Robinson also threw for 182 yards on 17-of-24 passing with three touchdowns. On defense, TCU was able to create three turnovers
SMU drops opener on the road
The SMU Mustangs suffered a loss in their opener, falling 46-23 at North Texas this past Saturday. The Mustangs were a 3.5-point underdog coming into the contest and failed to cover and they went under the 70.5-point total as well. SMU has hit the under in its last two and six of its last nine.
The loss to North Texas wasn’t really even as close as the score indicates. The Mustangs fell behind 36-0 through the first half before starting to make something happen in the second half. North Texas amassed 529 yards of offense, including 461 passing yards. SMU was held to just 256 total yards and only 4 rushing yards. You read that right, SMU had 4 RUSHING YARDS for the game on 19 carries. Ben Hicks led SMU with 252 passing yards and two touchdowns on 12 of 24 passing.
College Football Betting Trends
TCU
TCU has hit the under in five straight road games and six of their last seven games following a win.
SMU
SMU has hit the over in 17 of its last 23 games after a failed cover. The Mustangs have hit the over in nine of their last 13 against Big 12 opponents as well.
Prediction:
These two have hit the over in four of their last five meetings. I don’t see going on the road being a big issue for TCU. The Horned Frogs should be able to move the ball just five against this SMU defense. The issue will be what SMU can do against the Horned Frogs’ defense. I don’t anticipate much. If the Mustangs could only muster four rushing yards on North Texas, TCU should lock them up for next to nothing as well. TCU was sixth in the nation last year in rushing defense. I think TCU will win big, but the total will go under due to SMU’s lack of offense.
College Football Prediction: TCU/SMU Under 58.5
