TCU Season Odds
FORT WORTH, TX (TheSpread) – TCU felt like the odd man out in the first college football playoffs. Will the Horned Frogs used that as motivation to make a run to the title in 2015?
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, TCU is currently listed with 10/1 odds to win the College Football Playoffs this upcoming season. The Horned Frogs are also listed with odds of +150 to win the Big 12 Championship and TCU has an over/under of 10 wins for the 2015 season.
Gary Patterson steps into his 15th season as head coach of the Horned Frogs. He has went 132-45 in his career with TCU. The Frogs made the switch to the Big 12 in 2012 and struggled in the first two years, going just 11-14 overall and 6-12 in conference games. However, TCU broke out last year, going 12-1 overall and 8-1 in the Big 12 to earn a share of the conference title. The lone loss came at Baylor when it blew a 21-point lead in the fourth. Despite the slim loss, TCU was left out of the playoffs at the end of the year and they took that frustration out on Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl, winning by a score of 42-3.
TCU was a machine on both sides of the ball in 2014, allowing just 19 points per game on defense, which ranked eighth in the nation. The offense averaged 46.5 points per game, which ranked second. The team brings back quarterback and Heisman contender Trevone Boykin, who threw for 3,901 yards with 33 TDs while rushing for 707 yards and eight scores in 2014. The Frogs also return leading rusher Aaron Green (922 yards, 9 TDs) and leading receiver Josh Doctson (65 rec., 1,018 yards, 11 TDs). Look for the offense to be nearly unstoppable again.
TCU opens the year with a decent challenge, facing Minnesota on the road. It then hosts Stephen F. Austin and SMU before moving on to Big 12 play. Road trips will be made to Texas Tech, Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Home games will be had with Texas, West Virginia, Kansas and Baylor. The road schedule doesn’t seem too bad for TCU. Kansas State can be tough and Oklahoma should be a challenge, but the Frogs get Baylor at home, as well as WVU, which can tend to get into shootouts. If TCU’s defense doesn’t take too far of a step back, this team can certainly make a run at a perfect season. The chip will be on their shoulder all season.
