Tennessee a slight favorite vs. Iowa in 2015 Taxslayer Bowl on Friday

Tennessee favored by 3 vs. Iowa

JACKSONVILLE, FL (The Spread) – Tennessee and Iowa would like to put a positive end to an up-and-down season today when they meet in the Taxslayer Bowl at 3:20PM ET.

View Current College Football Odds

Tennessee ended its season by winning three of its last four games to go 6-6 on the season and 3-5 in the SEC. The 6-6 record is considered a mild improvement for coach Butch Jones in his second season, but a bowl win would really make for an improvement. The Vols were 6-6 against the spread for the season but failed to cover in its last two games.

Iowa, unlike Tennessee, ended its season losing three of its last four games. The Hawkeyes finished the year with a 7-5 record overall and a 4-4 mark in the Big Ten. Like the Vols, Iowa also went 6-6 against the spread this season, but it is 6-3 ATS in its last nine games while hitting the over in five of its last seven.

According to oddsmakers from BetDSI, Tennessee is the slight favorite in this game, as the Volunteers are getting odds of -3 points against the Hawkeyes. The over/under total for the game has been set at 51.5 points (View Matchup). These two have not met since 1987, when Tennessee picked up a 23-22 win despite being a 2-point underdog.

This game is likely to be a defensive struggle, as both teams hold their opponents to under 360 yards per game and both teams allow right around 24 points per game. The key to the game will likely be which quarterback can make the big throws. Tennessee went to Josh Dobbs late in the year and he has 1,077 yards passing with eight touchdowns while rushing for 393 yards and six scores. Iowa quarterback Josh Rudock has thrown for 2,404 yards and 16 touchdowns.
