Vols Not Distracted
Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer says a subpoena for his testimony in a lawsuit stemming from a decade-old Alabama recruiting scandal is aimed at distracting him from the upcoming season.

Fulmer was at the Southeastern Conference’s football media days in Birmingham, Ala., on Thursday when he got the subpoena to provide testimony for former Crimson Tide booster Wendell Smith’s lawsuit against the NCAA.
As usual, Tennessee has a rather daunting schedule again this year. They play home games against Florida, Alabama and Kentucky, while the Vols will have to go on the road to face Auburn and Georgia. Oddsmakers appear to be a little uneasy about Tennessee’s chances and have made Fulmer’s Volunteers a small long shot to win the 2009 NCAA National Championship at 30/1 odds.
If Tennessee can manage through Fulmer’s situation and a tough schedule, oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global would pay out a whopping $3,000 for every $100 future wager. If the Vols can win the SEC, oddsmakers will pay out $750 for every $100 future wager.
“The last time this happened we won the division with two freshman quarterbacks,” he said in a statement, referencing the 2004 season when the Vols went 10-3 and won the SEC East. “We won’t be distracted.”
