Tennessee Volunteers Game Notes
Tennessee redshirt senior QB Jarrett Guarantano (head) took part in Sunday’s practice as the Volunteers prepare for next weekend’s game vs. Vanderbilt. Guarantano (6’4/213) has struggled this season, and he’s now working his way back from an apparent head injury suffered during the third quarter of the Volunteers’ November 7 loss to Arkansas. The redshirt senior did not take part in any on-field work during last week’s practices, with Tennessee having extra time to work out its younger quarterbacks. Who starts Saturday’s game vs. Vanderbilt remains unknown for now, with HC Jeremy Pruitt to make that decision later in the week. Brian Maurer and Harrison Bailey, who both played against Arkansas, are also in the running to start.
Auburn Tigers Game Notes
Auburn sophomore QB Bo Nix caught threw for 300 yards and three scores on 18-of-24 passing and ran for 81 yards with a score in a 48-11 thrashing of LSU on Saturday. It was not this close. Auburn dominated this contest, and LSU didn’t score a touchdown until the middle of the fourth quarter. Nix played his best game of the season, showing off his ability to make plays with his legs while also making plenty with his right arm, as well. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound signal-caller threw two touchdowns in the first quarter, and he had a 91-yard connection with speedster Anthony Schwartz in the fourth to cement the blowout — if it wasn’t cemented already. LSU’s defense is terrible, but there’s no denying that Nix played well on Saturday.
Tennessee vs. Auburn Betting Prediction
The underdog in this series is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings while the road squad has covered in six straight meetings between these two teams. The Vols, meanwhile, are 5-2 against the number in their last seven games as an underdog and are 11-5 at the betting window in its last 16 games as a road pup. On the other side, the Tigers are 5-11-1 against the spread in their last 17 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and are 1-4 against the number in their last five games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous contest.
